Launching a new business? You’re full of ideas at this point, and doubt and angst, mixed with the tingle of excitement. You’re probably not sleeping that well, constantly planning, networking and flat out driving yourself crazy. It’s OK, you’re launching a new business. And we’ve all been there. Entrepreneurs have to be a bit nuts to have the chutzpah to even take the leap. But to also pause and consider a business vacation.
So you’ve done it, taken the leap, got all of the proverbial ducks in a row. Now what? At first it feels like you’re just playing the role of a business owner. Improvising at each meeting and with all of your ‘clients’, hoping that your new business takes off soon. Networking event after networking event, hoping to find your perfect customer. You know, the one with buckets of money ready to splash you with it. Days and weeks pass, you’ve collected a ton of business cards, sent what feels like a million emails and then it happens. The ‘it’ that you’ve been waiting for, a response from someone inquiring about your business.
At first you freeze, wonder if this is real, then you hope like hell that the person on the other side of the internet is willing to pay for your services. You respond, they respond, you quote a price, they counter, you reach an agreement. Now what?! Everything becomes real, now work has to begin and for a moment you wonder if you can even do it. Funny thing is, most new business owners go through this whirlwind of emotions, feeling like an imposter in a new business is pretty normal.
As time passes your confidence grows, you’ll have less of those ‘imposter moments’ although they never fully go away. Your new business, becomes just your business, and you start to be a little less flexible in your pricing. A little sassier at networking events and a lot less frantic when you work with new customers. Now it’s time to give yourself that business vacation you deserve!
Launching a new business is not for the faint of heart and some of the most successful people in the world have launched multiple companies, some that succeeded and some that haven’t. No matter what, treat yourself once in a while. A business vacation wouldn’t be too bad, right?
One of the most inspiring business people ever is Sir Richard Branson, he’s launched multiple successful businesses and his employees continually sing his praises. It’s funny to even think that at one point, he too was launching a new business, just like you!
This Mother’s Day, Sir Richard Branson has partnered with Flowers for Everyone for a chance to win a business vacation on one of his private islands for a lucky mom and her family. The prize is for 2 adults and 2 kids to enjoy a luxury vacation on Make Peace Island. Visit the Flowers for Everyone website for details and entry.
